Ukraine launched a massive wave of drone attacks on the Moscow region over the weekend, one of the largest such operations since the war began. The strikes targeted critical infrastructure, including the Angstrom plant in Zelenograd—a key producer of microelectronics for Russian weapons—and the Solnechnogorskaya pumping station, a vital node in the ring oil pipeline supplying fuel to Moscow and beyond. Ukrainian forces used a mix of known and newly identified drones, including the RS-1 'Bars', Firepoint FP-1, and a previously unseen model dubbed the Bars-SM Gladiator.

According to Ukraine’s SBU security service, the attacks were aimed at degrading Russia’s military-industrial capacity and logistical networks. Fires were reported at both targeted sites. The Russian defence ministry claimed most drones were shot down, stating 3,124 had been intercepted over the past week, though Ukrainian sources assert the strikes hit their intended targets. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy defended the operations as justified, noting a shift in frontline activity favoring Ukrainian forces.

The drone campaign extended beyond Russian borders: a suspected Ukrainian drone crashed in Lithuania, and Latvia reported a brief airspace incursion, underscoring the risks of stray drones near NATO territory. Meanwhile, Russia continued its own drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, injuring civilians in Odesa, Dnipro, and Kherson. The exchange highlights the war’s expanding geographic footprint and intensifying reliance on drone warfare.
