Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced plans to reinforce the Chernihiv–Kyiv direction amid growing concerns that Russia is pressuring Belarus to open a new front in the war. In his evening address, Zelensky cited increased Russian activity in talks with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, aimed at launching aggressive operations from Belarusian territory—either into northern Ukraine or against a NATO country bordering Belarus. He confirmed that Ukraine’s defense and security forces are preparing a response plan, which will be reviewed by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff.

Zelensky also revealed that Ukraine has obtained intercepted Russian documents outlining planned strikes on key political and military facilities in Kyiv, including locations on Bankova Street where top government and military officials are based. These plans, long in development, have reportedly been reactivated following recent patterns seen in Iranian-linked operations. Ukrainian intelligence is now focused on countering surveillance and targeting efforts against leadership and special services.

The warning underscores the expanding strategic risks in Eastern Europe, as Russia seeks to widen the conflict’s geography. Ukraine has informed its international partners about Moscow’s attempts to pull Minsk into direct involvement. While Belarus has not yet committed to offensive action, the potential for escalation remains high, particularly in regions close to the Ukrainian capital.
